  • What is weight loss surgery?

Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is a medical procedure designed to help you lose weight by altering your digestive system.
It typically involves reducing the size of the stomach or bypassing part of the digestive tract, leading to reduced food intake or nutrient absorption

  • Is weight loss surgery safe?

Weight loss surgery is universially regarded as a safe way to achieve meaningful weight loss when performed by experienced surgeons in accredited facilities.
However, like any surgical procedure, it carries risks and potential complications. Your surgeon will assess your individual health status and discuss the potential risks and benefits with you before proceeding.

  • Which procedures do you offer?

We offer several proven weight loss surgery procedures, including gastric sleeve surgery, gastric bypass surgery, and mini gastric bypass surgery.
Each procedure has its own benefits and considerations, and our team will help you determine the most suitable procedure for you.
  • What is gastric sleeve surgery?

Gastric sleeve surgery, also known as sleeve gastrectomy, involves removing a large portion of the stomach to create a smaller, sleeve-shaped stomach pouch.
This restricts the amount of food you can eat and helps you feel full sooner, promoting weight loss.
  • What is gastric bypass surgery?

Gastric bypass surgery involves creating a small stomach pouch and rerouting the digestive tract to bypass a portion of the small intestine.
This limits the amount of food you can eat and reduces the absorption of nutrients, leading to weight loss.
  • What is mini gastric bypass surgery?

Mini gastric bypass surgery is similar to traditional gastric bypass surgery but involves a simpler and less invasive procedure.
It creates a smaller stomach pouch and bypasses a portion of the small intestine to achieve weight loss.
  • What BMI do I need to have for every procedure?

The specific BMI (Body Mass Index) requirements for weight loss surgery procedures may vary depending on factors such as your overall health and medical history.
Generally, candidates for weight loss surgery typically have a BMI of 30 or higher.
  • What is revision surgery?

Revision surgery refers to a secondary weight loss surgery performed to correct or modify a previous bariatric procedure.
It may be necessary due to complications, inadequate weight loss, or failure of past procedures such as gastric bands.
  • How do I prepare for weight loss surgery?

Preparation for weight loss surgery involves various steps, including consultations with your Weight Loss Riga medical team, preoperative tests, dietary changes, and lifestyle adjustments.
Your medical team will provide detailed instructions on how to prepare for the surgery and what to expect before and after the procedure.

The amount of weight you can expect to lose varies depending on factors such as your starting weight, chosen procedure, adherence to dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and individual metabolism.

Generally, patients may need to take one to four weeks off work to allow for adequate rest and recovery.
  • Should I expect to regain weight after surgery?

While weight loss surgery can lead to significant and sustained weight loss, it's essential to maintain healthy lifestyle habits to prevent weight regain.
Adhering to dietary guidelines, staying physically active, and engaging with follow-ups can help support long-term weight maintenance.
  • Can I excerise after surgery?

Yes, exercise is an important component of postoperative recovery and long-term weight management.

Yes, it is possible to conceive and have a healthy pregnancy after weight loss surgery.

Pregnancy following weight loss surgery may require close monitoring and nutritional supplementation to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
  • Will I be left with any scars?

Most weight loss surgery procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques, which result in smaller incisions and less noticeable scars compared to traditional open surgery.
While some minor scarring may occur, the scars typically fade over time and can often be concealed by clothing.
Your surgical team will take care to minimize scarring and provide instructions for scar care during your recovery.
  • What aftercare tools are available?

Weight loss surgery is an effective tool in achieving weight loss but it’s the steps taken post surgery - developing new, long-term, healthier habits - that leads to lasting weight loss success and prevents unintended weight regain. This means our support doesn’t end once your surgery is complete. To help you cement long-term results post bariatric surgery, we’ve developed and included a range of aftercare solutions in our packages:
A personal nutritionist - they’ll work with you to help overcome dysfunctional eating habits and provide you with tailored dietary advice.
Psychotherapy support - through community, re-education resources, and 1-2-1 sessions with both a therapist and a functional nutritionist we'll provide you the advice, guidance, knowledge and support needed to manage the psychological and nutritional challenges linked to obesity remission and bariatric surgery success.
Check-ins and community support - Our team continue to check-in for 5 years post treatment so you're supported along the way. You'll also be added to a close-knit community of bariatric patients supporting one another in answering questions, sharing tips and recommendations and showcasing their journey.
  • Will I get follow-ups post surgery?

Yes - our team continue to check-in for 5 years post surgery to monitor progress and provide support so you're assisted throughout your bariatric journey.
  • What nutrition support is available?

If you opt for our nutritionist package, you'll work directly with one of our nutritionists who'll help you overcome dysfunctional eating habits and provide you with tailored dietary advice. Ensuring you have the skills and knowledge needed to both lose weight and keep it off long term.
  • Do you offer mental health support alongside the surgery?

We do. Through our partnershup with the Centre for Bariatric Support and 1-2-1 sessions with a qualified bariatric psychotherapist, we'll provide you the guidance and support needed to manage the psychological challenges linked to obesity remission and weight loss success.
